Awareness-building Campaign on First Nations Education

Key aspects of the education system that First Nations would like to see:

• First Nations want quality schools that are able to set and achieve the highest standards of excellence.

• First Nations want schools that their young people like attending because they are able to offer them extracurricular activities, quality services and promote a stimulating environment.

• First Nations want schools that possess modern management tools and are able to follow the developments and reforms that are under way in the world of education.

• First Nations want schools that are able to present the conditions for a stimulating educational environment promoting the success of the majority of their students.

• First Nations want schools of which the whole community can be proud, because as well as preparing young people well for the realities and demands of modern life, they are able to do so in the full respect of their history and identity, fully assuming their mission of transmitting culture down the generations.

• In summary – and above all – First Nations want schools that are able to fulfill their most important role, meaning that of contributing to the survival and prosperity of First Nations languages and cultures.
